WYS The Croft
The Croft is produced from 100% Shetland Island wool. West Yorkshire Spinners "had long awaited the opportunity to work with Shetland Island Wool, a fibre celebrated for its fineness, warmth and strength." They were given the opportunity by a partnership with Jamieson & Smith of Shetland. What is so awesome about shetland fleece? It has a high level of crimp and wave which make it ideal for handknitting. It has a soft hand while also retaining a great deal of durability.
The name "Croft" comes from "crofting" which is part of the cultural heritage of the Shetland Islands. "Crofting" is basically a small scale form of traditional farming. "Crofting is integral to the landscape, cultural heritage and social economy of the Shetland Islands. It bonds people and places in a unique way, preserving livelihoods and age old traditions."
