Transporter Accident Cowl Kit
Though usually a safe and speedy mode of instantaneous travel, the Transporter has been known to…. FAIL. And when it fails, it does so spectacularly. Craft your own Transporter Accident Cowl: to honor those who have been victims of the transport tube…. or to remind yourself and your sibling travelers of the dangers that may befall you when you forget the trickiness of DNA replication.
The yarn for this cowl was hand-dyed by Elizabeth in Asheville. The kit comes in a clear tube, repminiscent of the transporter itself... Kit comes with yarn, pattern (written & charted), as well as a special Star Fleet stitch marker.
The cowl begins with a garter tab. Setup like a triangular shawl, the cowl is knit flat until large enough to join in the round. The flat section includes three stockinette sections (one for each Star Fleet color) with black garter stripes between. Once joined in the round and knitting black garter border, you enter the Transporter and all hell breaks loose! The Star Fleet colors/identities mix it up with slipped stitch rows. This portion of the pattern is provided both with written instructions as well as 3 charts. The stitching is easy, generally 1 or 2 slipped stitches and 1 or 2 knitted or purled stitches. It can be hard to visually keep track because of the way the yarn is dyed (sometimes both the stitch you are knitting with your working yarn and the stitch you are slipping will be black! If you get off pattern it is not too big a deal as long as you keep track of the increases.
